I was surprised when I saw a homosexual man in Asterix Vs Caesar.

You know, that effeminate guy at the sauna who peeked into the changing room after telling Asterix and Obelix to undress.

I guess in France you can get away with making characters in family animation obviously gay, like they do with Candy in Space Goofs.

Of course, he is very stereotyped, which would normally disturb me, but since Asterix has always been about stereotypes it is acceptable. Stereotype one kind of person and you will hurt people. Stereotype everyone and you make people laugh.The only thing left to worry about is whether 'to stereotype' is an existing verb...it doesn't exist in dutch.Than again, many words do not exist in dutch.

I don't know why you would find it too surprising. Also in the film 'Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra' there are two gay characters - the scribe and the man at the end who admits people to the party. It is a sign of the times whether you like it or not.
